Prison Visitation and After-Prison Outreach
Volunteers form supportive relationships with adults who are currently or formerly in prison to promote healthy rehabilitation and reintegration.
The Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) recruits volunteers to visit individuals in prison, as well as build supportive relationships with those who have been released to foster positive social behaviour.
Research shows that inmates in prison, or those who have recently been released into the community, who receive frequent visits from community members are less likely to reoffend than those who do not receive visits.
Bridges 2 Community
B2C is a program facilitated by the Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) that strives to connect individuals serving an institutional sentence with community volunteers. This initiative is designed to address the profound isolation often experienced by incarcerated individuals by building meaningful, supportive relationships with members of the outside community.
B2C is a valuable initiative that also strengthens community bonds by fostering a more inclusive society. For those interested in volunteering and making a positive impact, more information and volunteer opportunities can be found by contacting [email protected]
Building Bonds in the Community
Our after-prison outreach program, called Building Bonds in the Community, connects volunteers with former offenders in the community to develop healthy, ongoing relationships that foster positive social behaviour. While the program is open to any former offender, the focus is on those who have served federal prison terms and have been released to the community.
