Homes with wrap-around supports for youth ages 15-24 who are experiencing homelessness.
Studies show that a significant portion of homeless adults first experienced homelessness as a youth — thus, the importance of diverting youth from a life on the streets.
Through our Roofs for Youth program, the Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) provides housing for youth who are experiencing homelessness, with support services based on their individual needs, so they are empowered to grow into healthy, independent adults.
The youth in our program may be exhibiting criminal behaviour and/or don’t have family supports, or involvement from child intervention services.
Raido House:
- Eight-bedroom house for youth ages 15-18
- 24/7 on-site support with intensive case management
Windsor Park:
- Nine-bedroom house for youth ages 18-24
- 24/7 on-site support with intensive case management
Scattered-site:
- Independent housing throughout Calgary for youth ages 15-24
- Case management, more independence
How It Works
Staff develop strong, one-on-one relationships with youth, helping them with goal planning; relationship development; skill development; schooling; advocacy; employment support; help navigating and understanding the justice system; strengthening natural supports; stabilization and outreach. Participation in the program is voluntary and youth cannot be forced to stay.
Through these supports, youth are guided into adulthood with the skills they need to achieve independence.
