Raido House, an eight-bedroom house for youth experiencing homelessness owned by the Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS), got a makeover in 2018 thanks to two generous local companies: The Wallin Co and Zoom Painting, and KBM Commercial Floor Coverings Inc.

The Wallin Co and Zoom Painting donated over $55,000 of in-kind services, and KBM donated over $15,000 in-kind.

“Giving back to the community I live in is extremely important to me,” says Kyle Friedman, CEO of The Wallin Co and Zoom Painting. “I have worked really hard to grow my company and, without the support and dedication from everyone around me, I would not have been able to do it. Raido House is one of these local supports for youth at such a critical age of their life. I thought if they had a little upgrade, it may make it that much better for everyone who calls Raido home.”

Trevor Kulyk, Special Projects Lead at KBM, agrees that Raido provides an important social service in the city. “For the last 30 years, KBM has been an integral part of Calgary’s construction industry.  We take pride in the work that we do,” he says. “When we were approached to be involved in the Raido House project, we jumped at the opportunity! CJHS is an incredible organization, and we are proud to work closely with them to improve the community in any way that we can.”

The youth who live at Raido House greatly appreciated the fresh new paint, carpets and floors, including in their bedrooms, and said it made Raido feel more like a home. They now have a greater sense of pride to be able to call it their home.
