It was announced on March 10, 2020 that the John Howard Society of Alberta (JHSA) is facing possible closure. JHSA is an independent organization that provides support to the seven local John Howard Society branches across Alberta, including the Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS), in the form of research, advocacy and policy. Although JHSA plays an important role in the criminal justice system, the funding to the local branches, including CJHS, is not directly affected and we will continue to operate our grassroots programming as usual.
Advocating for the fair and humane treatment of individuals involved in the justice system is important to CJHS. We appreciate support from the Government of Alberta and look forward to continuing to collaborate with them to prevent crime and make Alberta communities safer.
