Right now, over 750 youth in Calgary don’t have a safe, stable place to call home.

Through the Raising the Roof campaign, the Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) is raising money for our youth housing program through the sale of toques, baseball caps, mittens and socks. When you purchase these items, you are helping to provide affordable housing for youth experiencing homelessness, where they will have wrap-around supports to help them grow into healthy, independent adults.

Katie’s story

Katie, 20, has been living at a CJHS youth building for two-and-a-half years. Prior to finding her home here, she had been sleeping in parks and youth shelters.

“I came into this house at my lowest point,” she says.

Through the support of her caseworker and residential staff, Katie has learned life skills like how to cook, and how to love herself.

“Now I have more confidence than I’ve ever had. I actually want a future for myself,” she says. “I’ve never felt more supported in a place, ever, than I do here.”
